Nellore: The Kovuru police apprehended an inter-district gang and seized 50 sovereigns of gold ornaments worth Rs 12 lakh, four mobiles, one tablet and three knives from their possession.

Addressing the media here on Wednesday, SP Senthil Kumar said that Enumolu Durga Rao (30) alias Siva, Velaga Ravi (31) and Aarumulla Vamsikrishna (20) used to target women, who were staying alone at their residences, and decamp with booty by threatening them at knife point. The trio had made attempts at Suryapet and Kodad in Nalgonda district of Telangana and also at Visakhapatnam but failed in their bid.

Enumolu Durga Rao, who studied up to 5th Class, developed bad habits, and indulged in petty thefts. He along with his relatives Renuka Rao and Ramesh used to target women, who were traveling alone in autos, and steal the gold jewellery after threatening them. Cases were registered against him at Nagarapalem police station in Guntur district, Mangalagiri police station, Vijayawada One Town Police Station, Medikonduru police station, and Peddakakani police station.

Velaga Ravi, who was born with silver spoon, was addicted to bad habits, the SP said. He was arrested and sent to prison for kidnapping his brother’s son and while undergoing imprisonment he befriended Durga Rao who was also in the jail at that time.

After releasing from jail, the duo had snatched gold chains from women at Vijayawada, Nellore and Tirupati, the SP said. Cases were registered against Ravi in Pedanandipadu police station, Lalapeta police station in Guntur for kidnap, bike theft and robbery cases, he informed.

Aarumulla Vamshikrishna studied up to Inter and was eking out his livelihood by running an auto. After befriending with Ravi in order to earn quick bucks, he along with them, indulged in thefts. Kovuru CI Ashokvadhan, Kovuru SI Sudhakar Reddy, Kodavaluru SI Naresh and police personnel belonging to Dagadarthi, Indukurupeta were in the team that nabbed the thieves.

The SP, ASP Reddy Gangadhar Rao and Rural DSP P Rambabu appreciated the Kovuru police.
