Calls on Prime Minister

Hyderabad: Governor E S L Narasimhan, who is presently in New Delhi, called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and briefed him about the issues of the two Telugu-speaking States. Narasimhan met the Prime Minister in the Parliament and discussed several issues ranging from conducting intermediate examinations to sharing of river waters.

It may be recalled that earlier Ministers and Chief Ministers of both States had already lodged complaints with the Centre asking for its intervention in sorting out the differences. Later, speaking to the media, Narasimhan said no special significance should be attached to his meeting with Narendra Modi. The Governor added that he had informed Modi about the good work being done by both the Chief Ministers and also about conducive atmosphere prevailing on the law and order front.

Replying to questions, he said though the inter exams would be conducted separately by both the States, there was a possibility of a common EAMCET exam being held. The Governor pointed out that the academic career of the students was more important and their interests should not suffer.

He further added the allocation of IAS and IPS officers between the two States would be completed shortly. However, he did not respond whether confirming special status to Andhra Pradesh had figured in the discussions with the Prime Minister or not.
