Godavari Pushakaram works at a brisk pace
The East Godavari administration has speeded up the Pushkaram works in the district as the date for 12-day festival is fast approaching. Despite paucity of resources, the government has promised to release the required funds for the works. The administration, realising the urgency to complete them well before the festival, has set in motion the project.

Rajahmundry city MLA Akula Satyanarayana and rural legislator G Butchaiah Chowdary, Mayor P Rajani Sesha Sai have assured the administration of their cooperation in executing the works on time. They held series of meetings with officials of the Electricity, Roads and Buildings and other departments and suggested ways and means of executing quality works.
The Irrigation department proposes to build 80 bathing ghats for the pushkarams beginning June 14. It is estimated that not less than eight crore devotees will visit the City during the 12-day festival. The administration has estimated the cost of building the ghats and carrying out repairs to existing ghats to be Rs 77 crore.
The Electricity department officials are to build a 33/11 kV sub-station at cost of Rs 40 lakh to ensure 24-hour supply. The R & B department has taken up repairs to the Asia’s second longest rail-cum-road bridge at Kovur. Plans are afoot to carry out permanent repairs of the badly damaged road on the bridge. The RTC plans to deploy 100 buses in the city during the pushkarams. It is considering a proposal to provide free travel to devotees.
