Paritala SunithaHyderabad: Under the new procurement policy of Andhra Pradesh government, transport lorries will be taken right up to the paddy fields to pick up the paddy sold by farmers if a full load of paddy is available. This was disclosed by Andhra Pradesh Civil Supplies Minister Paritala Sunitha on Friday in reply to a question by members B Ramanamurthy and others. Paddy transport contractors would be appointed only after calling for tenders, the Minister informed.

The tenders would be called by the District Procurement Committee (DPC) headed by the respective District Collectors. The tender who quotes the lowest slab rate would be appointed as paddy transport contractor with the approval of DPC. Meanwhile, the Minister denied reports that paddy transport contractors were not readily available at several paddy purchase centres.

Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao appealed to the Minister to see that the problems arising out of the Centre's new policy on Food Corporation of India procurement be solved.
