Andhra Pradesh,Telangana gets no Special Status Shock. When bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh became inevitable, the then UPA government headed by the Congress tried to pacify aggrieved Andhra Pradesh people by promising to give special status. Now after the elections, the BJP Government came to power promising that though the division happened in a hurried manner it was due to their pressure that the then UPA Government agreed for special status.

Much has been spoken about special status to Andhra Pradesh, with Chief Minister Chandrababu claiming that Parliament would soon pass the bill according special status to the residual Telugu state. However, nothing of that sort happened though he made many trips to Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In the meantime, even Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao too started demanding special status to the new state.
In the meantime it is coming out that the Union Government is not keen to give special status, forget about Telangana but Andhra Pradesh too. During discussions in the winter Session of Parliament, the Centre sent subtle signals which Andhra Pradesh chief minister and Telangana chief minister are not reading or they are just trying to divert the attention of people.
The Union Government feels that once special status is granted, it has to fund various project which may antagonize other states. So the Modi Government is not keen on granting special status. Already, many states have started demanding packages and special status. At the best they may give some tax incentives.
