UCE-K principal Padma Raju speaks at National Mathematics Day

Kakinada: Dr K Padma Raju, principal, University College of Engineering (UCE-K), Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU-K), here, on Monday exhorted the gathering to comprehend the concepts designed by mathematical genius Srinivasa Ramanujan and bring back the glory of Maths to the country.

He was the guest of honour at a function organised to mark Ramanujan’s 128th birth anniversary, which is observed as the National Mathematics Day. The function was organised by the Mathematics department of UCE-K. Prof. GVR Prasada Raju, registrar, was the chief guest. Prof. V Ravindranath, director of admissions, Dr. P Subba Rao, vice-principal, were the guests of honor. GVSR Deekshitulu, head, Mathematics department, presided. The guests paid tributes to Ramanujan by garlanding his portrait. Prof. Ravindranath highlighted the achievements of Ramanujan and explained the theories and applications postulated by him.

Prof. Prasada Raju urged mathematics professors to be flexible in their teaching so that students feel ease in understanding complex problems. He lauded the sharp memory, simplicity, shrewdness and intellect of Ramanujan and asked the gathering to get inspiration from him.

Prof. K Satya Prasad, ECE faculty member, said an advanced research centre should be established in the university so that more research on mathematics could be conducted. The guests felicitated Prof Prasada Raju.Syamala proposed a vote of thanks.

Directors Dr. V Sreenivasulu, Dr. K Ramu, Prof. KVSG Murali Krishna, Prof. Padmaja Rani, Prof. Dakshina Murthy, members of the faculty and students were present.
