Vijayawada: The Central government had cleared the proposals of construction of a flyover at Kanakadurga Temple and outer ring road (ORR) for Vijayawada city, said the local MP Kesineni Srinivas.

Speaking to media persons here on Sunday, Srinivas said that the Union Minister for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping, Nitin Gadkari, had approved the proposals on December 11 and the same was conveyed to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. He said that the Central government had sanctioned Rs 19,700 crore for the ORR, while Rs 242 crore for the flyover at temple and widening the road from Bhavanipuram to Kanakadurgamma Varadhi.

The MP said that he had promised the voters for taking up the issue of the flyover at temple during the elections and had taken up the issue immediately. He could succeed in getting Central government clearance for the flyover that would end the traffic problems of the people in the city and also on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada national highway. He said that the National Highways Authority of India had agreed to widen the road from Bhavanipuram to the Kanakadurgamma Varadhi connecting the Hyderabad highway with the Chennai highway. This 4.8km long stretch would have around 2 km long flyover at the Kanakadurga Temple, the MP said and added that the work would begin soon. He thanked the Chief Minister for taking up the issue with the Central government and getting clearance for the project.

He said he would now take up the flyover proposal at Benz Circle in the city that would clear the city’s traffic problems on the Chennai-Kolkata National Highway. He expressed confidence that the two projects, besides others, would be completed during his five year tenure.

In reply to a question on his allegations of lack of coordination among the officials and the elected representatives, the MP said that the Chief Minister had promised to solve the problems. He asserted that the Union Minister Y Sujana Chowdary, who is also in-charge of the party in Krishna district, would hold a joint meeting with the officials and elected representatives to achieve coordination.
