Demand marking of boundaries to community building land

Anantapur: Girijan associations’ JAC leaders demanded marking of boundaries to the land which was already allotted for constructing Girijan Community Bhavan on the premises of TB Hospital in the city.

Seeking immediate action, they along with the members laid siege to the office of Premanandam, District Tribal Welfare Officer (DTWO) here on Monday. JAC leaders G Tirupal and Y Srinivasulu along with hundreds of Girijan leaders and activists raised slogans and staged dharna. One Town police rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the leaders. Finally, the agitators withdrew their protest with DTWO inviting them for discussions. Tahsildar Mahabub Basha also participated in the discussions.

Speaking on the occasion, the Girijan leaders said that the State government has allotted land for community bhavan for tribals after a long struggle. But the DTWO has been neglecting their repeated requests for marking boundaries to the land, they alleged.

Replying to this, DTWO Premanandam said that they don’t have government funds with them to bear the expenditure for marking the boundary lines. With this, Girijan leader G Tirupal assured the officials to bear all the expenses and the officials immediately marked boundary lines for the Girijan Community Bhavan land. Marking the occasion, the Girijan leaders and activists went in a rally and garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi near Tadipatri bus stand.

Girijan teachers, students, leaders Keshav Nayak, Subbarayudu, Seshu, Ramakrishna, Mallikarjuna, Parasuram, Govind, Nagesh, Sivaiah and hundreds of people participated in the protest.
