The Indian Coast Guard has rescued seven fishermen whose boat began drifting away from the coast due engine failure. Coast Guard spokesperson S Zakir Hussain said Kingfisher-3, Reg no. FVSM 602/MFR 206 along with seven fishermen had ventured into sea for fishing on December 26. However, the communication contact with the boat was cut-off from January 3 onwards.

Coast Guard Ship towing fishing boat back to Visakhapatnam on Wednesday

On receipt of message from Joint- Director fisheries on Tuesday, the Indian Coast Guard ship ICGS on patrol was immediately diverted to area for rendering assistance to the fishermen in distress. The Coast Guard ship conducted search in rough weather conditions and located the fishing boat which was adrift due to engine failure about 30 nautical miles east of Visakhapatnam at 2. 35 am on Wednesday .The ship rescued the fishermen and towed the fishing boat and reached Visakhapatnam at about 11 am. The boat was handed over to the owner.
