Rajahmundry: Rural MLA Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary stressed on the need for the cooperation of all the departments in the district to successfully conduct the Godavari Pushkarams. Speaking at a review meeting with the officials of the RTC, the RTO and the Irrigation Departments in the town on Friday, he directed the Executive Engineer of the Irrigation department P V Tirupati Rao to develop the existing and new bathing ghats completely.
Butchaiah Chowdary said that the Chief Minister has released funds to undertake repairs and beautification to the road-cum-rail bridge immediately. He informed the officials that the Railway department gave permission to stop the rail traffic for four hours to undertake repair works on the bridge. He further said that steps were being taken to complete the fourth bridge very soon. He said that R&B department and the construction company were directed to complete works on both sides of the bridge very soon.
Later, the MLA asked the APSRTC Regional Manager PVS Nageswara Rao on their plans to run city buses during Pushkarams. Stressing on the need to develop APSRTC complex, the MLA directed the officials to develop it in a corporate style by removing all the encroachments by the time of the Pushkarams. Expecting the arrival of about 15 lakh pilgrims every day during Pushkarams, he told the officials to take steps to cater to their needs.
Rajahmundry RTO CHNY Hyma Rao informed the MLA that there were 15,000 auto rickshaws in Rajahmundry. In response, Gorantla told the officials to allocate identification numbers to the auto drivers and inform them about the routes on which they should run their vehicles. He said that steps would be taken to announce holidays to schools for 12 days during Pushkarams.
Rajahmundry APSRTC depot manager NS Muralikrishna and Traffic Manger NVR Varaprasad were present on the occasion.
