Nellore: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday observed that the Sankranti festivities in Andhra Pradesh reflected the country’s culture and traditions. Participating in the Sankranti celebrations organised by Swarna Bharati Trust, headed by Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu’s daughter Deepa Venkat, here, he praised its activities, like teaching in ‘Akshara Vidyalaya’. Fadnavis stated that the teaching and training reflected ‘our culture and traditions’.

The other chief guest, film star Pawan Kalyan lauded the Trust activities for empowering women. He chatted with the Vidyalaya students and keenly observed the ‘Rangoli’ prepared during the competitions organised in connection with Sankranti in the institution’s compound.

Pawan Kalyan said that a society without hygiene would not prosper. Taking a dig at politicians, he advised them to concentrate on work rather than posing for photographs during the ‘Swachh Bharat’ campaign. He called upon every citizen to be responsible towards the country.

In his address, Venkaiah Naidu desired that the country, known for its rich traditional practises, should emerge as ‘Vishva Guru’. He said that the people had realised that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership was necessary for achieving this. While hoping that Sankranti would usher in happiness in the lives of people, the minister wished that the two Telugu States should move ahead in the area of development.

Earlier, Managing Trustee Maganti Ravindranath Babu presented a report on the Trust activities. State Minister Kamineni Srinivas, State BJP president K Haribabu and mrudangam artiste Yella Venkateswara Rao gave away prizes to winners of the Rangoli and games competitions.
