Minister for Transport Sidda Raghava Rao along with local MLA D Janardhan on Sunday inaugurated Sankranti Kanukalu (gifts) scheme. They distributed gifts to a few beneficiaries. The TDP government unveiled the scheme in all 13 districts in the State on the occasion of Sankranti festival. The government had allotted Rs 300 crore to implement the programme, according to Raghava Rao.

The TDP government unveiled the scheme in all 13 districts in the State on the occasion of Sankranti festival. The government had allotted Rs 300 crore to implement the programme, according to Raghava Rao.

As far as Prakasam district is concerned, the scheme would benefit 8,38,423 persons and it was being implemented at a cost of Rs 16.43 crore, the Minister said. He warned the traders of severe action if they resorted to malpractices.

Meanwhile, Raghava Rao’s statement that the scheme to distribute groceries free of cost would be implemented under the supervision of Janmabhoomi committee took everyone by surprise. It gave rise to fears that the government had decided to implement the welfare programmes under the watchful eyes of party activists.
