Naidu’s smart idea for development of AP

Hyderabad: In an off the wall appeal, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who apparently is concerned with the dwindling birth rate in his State, made a fervent plea to the people on Sunday to stop family planning and procreate at least three children to increase the population of younger generation in the State in the coming years.

He made these comments at a public meeting conducted as part of the launching of ‘Smart Village’ programme at Velivennu village in West Godavari district. “According to official statistics, the deaths and births reported every year are almost equal in the recent years. A total of nine lakh people are dying every year and births are also registered with equal number. If the present phenomenon is continued, the State would be a hub of more aged people like Japan which was facing socio and economic crisis due to lack of youth population,” he said.

Naidu warned this trend would be a major threat to the State in achieving development goals set by the government. He said that late marriages and giving birth only one or two children was not a good sign for the holistic development of the State. The Chief Minister urged the youth to get married early and give birth to at least three children.

Exhorting the people to come forward with innovate ideas to develop villages as self sufficient, Naidu said setting up of industries in the villages would not only help generate employment but also stop migrations to urban areas which were already burdened with swelling population. He wanted to see every citizen ‘smart’ and felt villages should also be promoted as smart villages with hi-tech facilities.

Reiterating that his government was committed to connect all villages with broadband facility, the Chief Minister said the NRIs also had the responsibility of developing their own villages by establishing industries and investments in basic infrastructure. On the occasion, he distributed subsidised agricultural machinery to the farmers.
