Vijayawada: A two-day self-defence training programme for girls began at Vasavya Mahila Mandali in Vijayawada on Monday. Vasavya Mahila Mandali and Dr NTR Health University are jointly organising the training programme.

Deepthi Shankar from Delhi imparted self-defence techniques to the girls. She demonstrated the techniques that would help the girls to protect themselves from eve teasers and chain snatchers. She appealed to the parents to encourage their children to learn martial arts and other self-defence methods.

Deepthi Shankar advised the girls to listen to vehicle sounds while walking in isolated places and to walk on the right side of the busy roads. “I underwent training in KAPAP (a self-defence technique) in Israel and conducted workshops all over the country,” she added.

Vasavya Mahila Mandali chairman Chennupati Vidya, noted physician Dr Samaram, Dr B Keerthi, G Rashmi and others were present. About eighty students attended the training programme.
