Bhimavaram (West Godavari): Home Minister of Andhra Pradesh Chinarajappa on Thursday started a Kalasa procession with 216 women devotees (Muttaiduvas) and participated in Mahakumbhabhishekam on the premises of Sri Bhavani Durga Malleswari temple here. The procession passed through the streets of the town. Speaking on the occasion, Chinarajappa said the government had not given permission for cockfights. The Supreme Court and the High Court also ordered not to organise cockfights. In spite of that, some people organised cockfights on the occasion of the festival and the cases would be filed against them, he added.

However, it was not clear whether criminal cases would be filed against the people’s representatives, including MLAs and MPs, who openly defied the ban imposed by the apex court and participated in the cockfights in many districts.
