Hyderabad: CPI Andhra Pradesh Secretary K Ramakrishna on Sunday demanded that Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu resign from cabinet post for failing to fetch special status to the residuary Andhra Pradesh State.

In a press release, the CPI leader accused Venkaiah Naidu of changing track on special status issue.

Demanding that Venkaiah should apologise to people for failing to keep his promise, Ramakrishna ridiculed the Union Minister for stating that Centre was facing economic problems and that was the reason why the Centre was not able to grant special category status to AP, as it will attract similar demands from other States.

Venkaiah has been talking of special status to Andhra Pradesh for 10 years, on coming to power, he was now singing another tune, Ramakrishna pointed out. “Venkaiah is now asking the Chief Secretary to send proposals for Capital City, Secretariat, High Court, Assembly and government offices, instead of providing special category status to AP”, he criticised.

He also found fault with the BJP leader, as he could not do anything for the cause of Andhra Pradesh State which needs adequate funds for development.

The CPI will launch massive protests from mandal-level to State-level on Venkaiah’s failure to get special status to the residuary State, he added.
