AP to conduct separate exam

Hyderabad: Putting an end to the controversy, the Andhra Pradesh government has decided to hold Eamcet for its students separately. The decision was taken at the AP Cabinet meeting held here on Monday under the chairmanship of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

Speaking to newspersons after the meeting, AP Human Resources Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao said, “We will conduct our own Eamcet. The Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University-Kakinada will be conducting the examination,” he said. The decision on Eamcet has paved way for all other CETs like ICET, EdCET and PGECET etc. Now all the CETs would be conducted separately by Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

According to the sources, a meeting would be held with officials of the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education on how to go about on the remaining CETs. The Councils for Higher Education of both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana were at loggerheads over the conduct of joint Eamcet for the students of both the States.

On December 29, the APSCHE had announced Eamcet (Engineering, Agriculture and Medicine Common Entrance Test) for both the States would be held on May 10. But the TSCHE immediately countered its move and announced that it would conduct Eamcet for Telangana students on May 14. Even Governor ESL Narasimhan intervened on the issue and tried to convince both the States to find an amicable solution to the controversy to ensure that the students do not suffer.
