Eluru: Social Welfare Minister Ravela Kishore Babu on Wednesday said the State government would strive for the economic uplift of SCs and STs through the Social Empowerment Mission. Addressing the gathering after inaugurating a guest house constructed at a cost of Rs 14.6 lakh on the premises of Social Welfare Department office here, he said the Social Empowerment Mission would help provide good education and nutritious diet to SC and ST students.

“The Empowerment Mission aims at eradicating social inequalities, besides alleviating poverty. A plan of action will also be implemented to ensure that students of Social Welfare hostels achieve 100 per cent results in the forthcoming SSC examinations. The SC/ST Sub-Plan will be implemented effectively without giving scope for diversion or misuse of funds,” he said. MP Maganti Venkateswara Rao, MLA Badeti Kota Rama Rao, ITDA project officer R Suryanarayana, Eluru RDO Namburi Tej Bharat, Social Welfare deputy director Sobha Rani and leaders of Dalit associations were present at the programme.

Later, the minister inspected a Study Circle, taken up at a cost of Rs 4 crore in the district headquarters. The Study Circle will provide coaching to SC, ST and BC students for competitive examinations and recruitment tests.
