The BJP led NDA has finally opened up its mind on the intricate issue of special status or special category status for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. But it is obvious that it has no clear program in mind and that it was just fishing in troubled waters of Andhra Pradesh.

The Andhra Pradesh state BJP chief spokesperson Sudheesh Rambhotla maintained that the Special status to Andhra Pradesh hinged on consensus among all other state heads in the National Development Council.

States including Tamil Nadu, West Bengal had aired apprehensions about special package to Andhra Pradesh, as it would mean migration of industries from their respective states. Centre is striving for consensus among other states in the NDC and in case it fails to happen, the State will be compensated through other routes and packages.

Responding to APCC chief N. Raghuveera Reddy’s open letters to Union Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Rambhotla told reporters that the Centre is closely observing the economic dynamics of the State post-bifurcation to determine the actual revenue deficit and decide on the package to be disbursed.
