He urged the quarry owners to increase their production significantly. The Collector conducted a review meeting with officials of the departments of Roads and Buildings, Mines and quarry owners at R&B guest house here. Speaking on the occasion, Arun Kumar urged quarry owners to extend their support to complete road-laying works in time.
He instructed the officials to speed up the process of laying of roads to ensure that the pilgrims who arrive here for Godavari Pushkarams get good infrastructure facilities. He stated that there is need for one lakh lorries load of gravel for Pushkarams.
He maintained that the quarry owners from West Godavari district should also supply gravel apart from those in East Godavari. He has mentioned that first priority should be given to laying road between Madhurapudi airport to Rajahmundry, new VIP Ghat on the Godavari bund and for road development works in Dowleswaram.
He has directed the Assistant Director of Mines department to submit report on the production capacity of the 50 quarries in the district after conducting a personal inspection of the quarries. Speaking on the occasion, Roads and Buildings Superintending Engineer CSN Murthy said that 2.27 lakh cubic metres of gravel is required for the first phase of Pushkaram works and 3.42 lakh cubic metres is needed for the second phase works.
