After discovering that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu spent Rs. 15 crore over the last eight months to fly, the AP government is reconsidering the proposal to buy a new helicopter. The issue has been discussed by AP finance minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu with the finance department officials.

After assuming office on June 8, 2014, the AP CM was using private helicopters and chartered flights. Earlier before the division of the state, AP had Augusta Westland helicopter that was destroyed in a fire accident at Begumpet airport in December 2012. All states own helicopters for CMs to travel to the districts.

The finance officials supported the decision of Yanamala who opined to purchase a new helicopter instead of paying crores of rupees to private companies. Finance officials informed that a new helicopter would require Rs 70 crore. The size of the helicopter would be decided by the Government after discussions with CM Naidu.
