Says Handri-Neeva will be completed within a year

Kuppam (Chittoor): Stating that Kuppam is his life (Pranam), Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said he would be indebted to the people of the area for the love and affection they were showering on him. Naidu, who initiated several development initiatives in his constituency on Tuesday, addressed the public at various places, including Ramakuppam and Santhipuram.

He profusely thanked the people for continuously electing him to the Assembly even though he failed to visit them during the election campaign. Reiterating that all the election promises would be fulfilled for the all-round development of Kuppam and make it a model constituency in the State, he said Kuppam was meted out a raw deal during the 10-year Congress rule, bringing its development to a standstill.

Reiterating that getting Handri-Neeva water to Kuppam was the only way out to fulfil the requirement of irrigation and drinking water needs of the area, Naidu declared that he would take steps to get the Handri-Neeva project completed within a year. Claiming that the newly launched ‘Neeru-Chettu’ campaign would help to overcome drought, the Chief Minister underscored the importance of participation of the people to make the programme successful.

In this connection, he said the TDP government embarked on an ambitious programme of diverting excess water in the Godavari river to the Krishna river command area so that the Krishna water could be diverted to Penna for the benefit of Rayalaseema districts, ahead of the Centre, which was planning to link Ganges with the Cauvery.

On the construction of the capital city, Naidu said it was neither an easy task nor built in one day. He explained the efforts being made by the government to make the capital city a magnificent one. During his programme covering three mandals, Naidu initiated 11 development works with a total outlay of Rs 187 crore.

These include construction of a 225/33 kV sub-station and power supply improvement to ensure quality power supply in three mandals, to be taken up with an outlay of Rs 114 crore, diversion of supply channel with an outlay of Rs 11.9 crore and construction of social welfare model residential school with Rs 25 crore. He also laid foundation stones for construction of ITI, Government Degree College, additional building at Kuppam Area Hospital, ultra modern sports complex and an ICDS office. Naidu also declared open the newly constructed Mandal Mahila Samakhya building and also a Sub-Collector Office at Madanapalle.

Naidu interacted with the farmers after inaugurating a green house and micro-irrigation of rose cultivation. Minsters B Gopalakrishna Reddy, R Kishore, MP N Sivaprasad, MLAs G Sankar Yadav, Talari Adithya, party leaders from the district and officials were present.
