Guntur: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is likely to announce a revised package for fertile land farmers in a couple of days in the proposed capital region, it is learnt. Only four days left the expiry of deadline for the farmers to surrender their lands for building capital city.

The CRDA officials and Minister for Municipal Administration P Narayana and MLA T Sharavan Kumar have stepped up their efforts by visiting the problem villages and negotiating with the reluctant farmers every day. The officials claimed that farmers had surrendered 1,000 acres of land on Monday. The officials said so far 23,800 acres were pooled. It may be recalled that a group of farmers from capital region, comprising Thulluru, Tadepalli and Mangalagiri mandals, went to Delhi and participated in the protest organised by Gandhian activists Anna Hazare.

The farmers sought the help of Anna in thwarting the government’s move to snatch the fertile land under guise of building capital city. The officials said the government, after announcing revised package, would wait till February 28 for farmers to react. If the farmers remained adamant, the officials said the government would invoke Land Acquisition Act.
