Guntakal (Anantapur): Deputy Chief Minister K E Krishna Murthy said here on Tuesday that there would be a major overhaul of the Revenue Department. A zonal meeting with the Joint Collectors and the Mandal Revenue Officers would be held in this regard.

Speaking to the media at the Railway Guest House here, he said guidelines would be issued to regularise the assigned lands. The Deputy Chief Minister lashed out at the previous Congress government for issuing GO No. 571 and handing over the lands to the corporate sector, thus, hurting the interests of the farmers. He added that all those decisions would be reexamined.

Similarly, 8,000 acres of land was handed over to the Lepakshi Hub, he said and added that it remained unutilised even after so many years. Krishna Murthy said there was need to scrutinise the land allotments to Special Economic Zones (SEZs). He said that efforts were being made to turn Anantapur district into an industrial hub. The industrialists were coming forward to set up solar and wind mills in the district, he said.

Krishanmurthy said the State government had collected Rs 2,723 crore on registrations and stamps for the financial year 2014-15 against the set target of Rs 3,404 crore. He said the remaining target would be reached by the end of March. He said that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was making efforts to bring two tmcft of water from the Godavari river to the Rayalaseema region and solve the problem of water scarcity. The government would take steps to fill all the lakes by completing the Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanti Project and meet the requirements of irrigation and drinking water, he added.
