Finance Minister Y. Ramakrishnudu during presentation of budget for 2015-16 in the Assembly on Thursday sought a Rs.2,700-crore proposal for external aid from World Bank for permanent restoration of damages caused by Hudhud cyclone.


Y. Ramakrishnudu said through the support of World Bank, the government was planning to make Hudhud affected areas cyclone-proof by putting in place underground cabling and other infrastructure providing proper protection.


On account of Hudhud Cyclone, Mr. Ramakrishnudu said that a United Nations report estimated the loss as $ 11 billion. Government of India has released an advance amount of Rs. 400 crore.
