Ravela Kishore Babu, AP social welfare minister almost tried to escape from a press conference, refusing to give a categorical response on the ABCD categorization of SC issue that could favour the Madigas and fulfill their long standing demand for same.

The Minister said the issue was in the court of Centre and Supreme Court; such classification of SC under ABCD can be made possible as only amendment to article 341 and urged the MRPS leaders to drop their plans for Assembly.

Stating that the TDP government had issued a categorization GO in 2000 but due to the need of constitutional amendment and that State government having no jurisdiction on the issue, it was struck down by the Supreme court; The Minister said that even at that time, TDP is the only party committed for the all-round development of both the Madiga and Malas of the SC community.

Urging the Madiga leaders to spare the TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu from disparaging comments as he had initiated the categorization process in 2000, Kishore Babu said that the Mala population was 42.16 lakhs in AP while Madigas was 38.16 lakhs and in Telangana, Malas were 17 lakh and 37 lakh Madiagas .

The minister walked out of the conference when asked to categorically state whether the AP government and TDP were committed for categorization.
