Speaker expresses displeasure over proceedings

Hyderabad: The proceedings of Andhra Pradesh Assembly have stooped to lowest when all decency and decorum was thrown to winds with opposition and treasury benches trying to outsmart each other. While such scenes have become a daily affair, it touched a new low on Wednesday when the opposition members rushed to the podium demanding the Chair that Jaganmohan Reddy be allowed to speak without interruptions.

While doing so they gesticulated at the ruling party members. This led to equally objectionable reaction from the TDP MLA Bonda Umamaheswar Rao who behaved as if he was in a street brawl using words like “Entra.. Entra… Patestaa… and as the situation was going out of control, the Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao adjourned the House for 15 minutes. Later, speaking to The Hans India, Speaker Kodela expressed his displeasure over the way the proceedings in the House were going on. “I am not happy, absolutely not happy the way the House is functioning,” he said.

Differences cropped up between the two sides over the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Project (PLIP). Trouble aggravated with the leader of opposition Jaganmohan Reddy offering to give lessons in English to TDP members. Reading out a Supreme Court judgement, Jagan said that if the members do not understand English he was ready to offer tuition. Retorting to this chief whip K Srinivasulu said that they need not take tuition from a man who had stolen question papers from Shiv Shivani School when he was in tenth standard. This led to furore and the YSRCP members rushed towards the well of the House.

A little later, when Jagan was seeking clarifications on the Pattiseema project, Naidu intervened and gave a detailed explanation and how the Jagan’s father Y S Rajasekhara Reddy’s actions had resulted in the state losing its rights over surplus water. This led to another round of protests and Jagan was seen sending his members towards the well of the House. As Jagan once again started alleging that irregularities had taken place in sanctioning tenders, Umamaheswara Rao in fit of anger called Jagan “420” and alleged that he was instigating his members to create trouble.

Umamaheswara demanded that Speaker take action against YSRCP member ‘Roja aunty’. He called Kodali Nani as ‘iron leg’. This led to heated exchange of words between the two sides. Nani and other members almost rushed towards Uma. Sensing more trouble the Speaker adjourned the house for 15 minutes. He saw the video clippings to ascertain what exactly had happened. Later in the evening the Speaker’s office released video clippings of the ugly scenes in the assembly.
