AP encounter: HC extends time till April 17 to preserve bodies in a mortuary in Thiruvannamalai District Headquarters government hospital. Counsel for the petitioner, K Balu submitted a report that the bodies be preserved till the petitioners take a decision on approaching the Andhra Pradesh High Court or Supreme Court.

The Madras High Court on Friday extended the time till April 17 for preserving the bodies of six persons who were gunned down in the encounter in the Seshachalam forests of Andhra Pradesh. The High Court however refused to pass any order on re-postmortem.


Following a petition from counsel for Muniammal of Polur of Thiruvannamalai district, wife of one of those killed, Justice M Sathyanarayanan of AP adjourned the case till next Friday.


Seeking a re-postmortem on the body of her husband who was killed in the alleged encounter in Seshachalam Forests near Tirupathi on Tuesday, she came up for hearing before Justice M Sathyanarayanan.


The Judge stated that there is no jurisdiction for the court to pass order on re-postmortem as AP High Court already seized the issue; with a PIL pending in the Supreme Court, the Court will not be able to pass any order for an FIR was not filed in the jurisdiction of court. However, the petitioner can approach the Andhra Pradesh High Court or Supreme Court in this regard said the Judge.


Counsel for the petitioner, K Balu submitted a report that the bodies be preserved till the petitioners take a decision on approaching the Andhra Pradesh High Court or Supreme Court. The judge following this adjourned the case to April 17 and the bodies would be preserved in a mortuary in Thiruvannamalai District Headquarters government hospital.
