Hyderabad: The issue of bifurcation of the High Court seems to be getting knottier by the day as the Andhra Pradesh government has taken a stand that the State High Court should be located in Hyderabad only since the city happens to be the joint capital for next 10 years. Following this, the High Court directed the petitioner and the two Telugu governments to submit written petitions on April 15.

The Andhra Pradesh government is of the opinion that it would not be possible to have the High Court in AP for the present. It is said to be of the view that the High Court be located in the new capital region. Having it located at any place in the State at this juncture will make it nearly impossible to relocate the HC in the future. People of Rayalaseema would demand that it be set up at Kurnool while other would want it to be in Guntur.

Besides, work on the new capital and location of various institutions are yet to be decided. Hence, it cannot inform about the location to the High Court. It now remains to be seen whether the present building would be divided into two High Courts or if the TS government would provide some alternative space for it. In fact, at one stage the TS government wanted to have its High Court somewhere in Gachibowli, but with the Chief Justice ruling that the present building belongs to Telangana State, it has dropped such a proposal.
