Kadapa: Anil Kumar Reddy of the TDP was on Sunday unanimously elected as chairman of the Kadapa District Cooperative Central Bank as his father and party MLA G Veerasiva Reddy’s plans proved successful. The YSR Congress Party boycotted the elections. The result is being interpreted as a setback for YSRCP chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy in his home turf.

  • Anil Kumar Reddy elected unanimously
  • His father Veerasiva Reddy’s strategy successful

Following the election of Anil Kumar Reddy, party MP C M Ramesh declared that good days were ahead for farmers of the district and people. Veerasiva Reddy threatened to bury YSRCP, while legislators of that party Rachamalla Prasad Reddy and Ravindranath Reddy, MP Y S Avinash Reddy and district YSRCP president Amarnath Reddy contended that the TDP was indulging in undemocratic politics.

The DCCB chairman’s election was to be held on Saturday following the orders of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. It was postponed to Sunday because of lack of quorum. The DCCB meeting on Sunday began without considering the quorum issue, with the filing of nominations at 8 am for the vacant posts of four co-opted members.

Three members of TDP, which has a majority of DCCB directors, were elected. They were Raja Naik (ST) of Chintakommadinne mandal, Baludu (BC) of Proddatur and Chalamayya Naidu (OC) of Chitvel. Election for the fourth post did not take place as traditionally it would go to the family members of China Obulesu of Ramapuram mandal, who died recently. A chance was given to YSRCP for this post.

Later, the DCCB chairman’s election was taken up. The TDP’s strength of directors rose to 12, while that of YSRCP was eight. With only Anil Kumar Reddy filing the nomination, he was unanimously elected. District Cooperative Officer Pome Naik announced the result and handed over the declaration form to Reddy.
