According to senior officials, the State government has been insisting on implementation of 12-point programme in higher education to revamp the existing system of curriculum through innovative measures.

As part of it, traditional courses in arts, commerce and basic sciences would be reviewed by universities and plans would be drawn on how to go about in introducing semester system. Andhra University has been asked to review B.A. course, Sri Venkateswara University B.Sc. course and Acharya Nagarjuna and Vikrama Simhapuri Universities the B.Com. course.

“We, together with Acharya Nagarjuna University, are reviewing the existing structure of B.Com. course and will suggest syllabus upgrading process in accordance with the proposed semester system. This is only beginning stage and will take sometime to take a final shape,” said Prof. V Veeraiah, Vice Chancellor, Vikrama Simhapuri University.

In fact, many universities across the country have already switched to semester system. Educational institutions like University of Calcutta, Punjab University, Dibrugarh University, Rajiv Gandhi University and many others have started semester pattern four to five years ago.
