Tirumala: In a bid to bring more transparency and reducing inconvenience to devotees in getting arjita seva tickets, the TTD is going to phase out current booking quota system starting from May 16. As a tradition, the abode of Lord Venkateswara opens with the conduct of daily arjitha seva ‘Suprabatham’ followed by Thomala seva and Archana. Besides a set of other daily sevas are performed.

In view of comfortable darshan for those who buy arjitha seva tickets there is a huge demand for them, which are issued under advanced booking, current booking and discretionary quota. To get the tickets, devotees have to stand in long queues for hours and there were also incidents of irregularities in their sale. Taking all these issues into consideration, the temple administration is going to scrap the current booking quota in a phased manner and shift to 'dip' system of allotting tickets from this Saturday.

The TTD authorities in 2011 had cancelled ‘bulk booking' of arjitha seva tickets under the advanced booking quota and made the same available under the ‘lottery dip' system wherein the devotees will have to test their luck in getting the arjitha seva tickets through an automated lucky dip system. Now this mode is being applied to current booking quota of arjitha seva tickets too.

Speaking to the media persons at Tirumala on Thursday, TTD JEO K S Sreenivasa Raju said the devotees who want to take part in arjitha sevas, including Suprabatham, Visesha Puja, Sahasra Kalasabhishekam, Tiruppavada and Nijapada darshan (weekly sevas) will have to enroll themselves for the lucky dip between 10 am to 5 pm.

The TTD would allot the tickets to the ‘lucky devotees through the automated lottery process. Each day about 100 Suprabatham tickets and 80 Kalyanotsavam tickets will be on offer to the devotees under the new system, while 150 tickets of Visesha Puja, 25 tickets of Sahasra Kalasabhishekam, 25 Tiruppavada tickets and 100 Nijapada seva tickets under the weekly sevas would be on offer as well.

Meanwhile, after closely looking into the pros and cons of the new system, the temple administration would also bring other arjitha sevas including Arjitha Brahmotsavams, Unjal Seva, Sahasra Kalasabhishekam, Vasanthotsavam, Angapradakshanam etc under the 'dip system' in a phased manner. But as of now TTD is to continue the old sytem of issuance of these select arjitha seva tickets under the current booking quota without any changes.
