The ongoing process of identification of government and DKT Patta lands creating flutter in the mandals in Satyavedu and Srikalahasthi constituencies where the government has proposes to set up projects in the future. According to reliable sources, at the behest of the government the revenue authorities have taken up the identification of the government, DKT, forest and Inam lands in the 13 mandals, including the 10 mandals in Satyavedu and Srikalahasthi constituencies and Tirupati Urban, Rural and Chandragiri mandal from November last year itself.
The authorities divided the mandals into 148 blocks for taking up the survey, which also contain information on the facilities available in the area, including ground water the nearest road, rail and airport link and also distance from Chennai and Bengaluru cities, the two metropolitan cities nearer to the district, and also ground water availability, normal weather condition etc.
It is learnt that the government intent to keep these land details on online for the sake of displaying them to the investors worldwide to show them the availability of the required infrastructure in Chittoor district for inducing investments. The reason for the government concentrating only on the two constituencies in the district for identification of lands for future industries and institutions was believed to be the availability of dependable water sources like SS canal (Somasila- Swarnamukhi canal) and Telugu-Ganga besides the availability of groundwater which is more with high rain fall (ranging 800-1100 mm annually in many of these mandals) besides abundant and cheap availability of labour.
Interestingly, the entire collection of details of the lands went on somewhat in a secretive manner with the village-level staff providing the details about the lands village wise without drawing the attention of anyone while the leaders of ruling party and the official have yet to come out open on the purpose of the identification of lands done adding more to the anxiety of the people.
However, the people in these mandals, who were till now not reacted on the massive identification of the lands being carried out, slowly waking up following the reports appeared in a section of media and the political parties particularly the Left parties taking up the issue after they got wind of the State government’s move to acquire lands at the cost of the poor as it was they who have been enjoying DKT Patta lands also government lands.
According to the Left leaders, the total extent of lands identified by the government so far in the two constituencies in the name future needs was about 1.5 lakh. In the four mandals of Srikalahasti, BN Kandriga, Yerpedu and Renigunta, the revenue authoritiesidentified 63,000 acres, including government, forest and DKT Patta lands, according to the documents available with The Hans India.
