Anantapur: Y S R Congress Party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy on Saturday lashed out at Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for making false promises to the farmers during elections and stabbing them in the back after coming to power. Participating in the Rythu Bharosa Yatra at Kanekal mandal in the district on Saturday, he expressed concern over the plight of the farmers, especially the paddy growers, who did not get support or remunerative prices for their produce.

He also interacted with the DWCRA women and farmers at Ujjahal and enquired about their problems. The women lamented that they were misled by the false promises of Naidu during the 2014 elections and now regretting for voting him to power. The aged persons told him that they were being made to run from pillar to post to get pensions in the Tahsildar’s office.

He further said it was unfortunate that in Kanekal, though the support price of paddy was fixed at Rs 1,360 by the government, it was being purchased at lower price. He said the farmers were facing untold hardships with the steep hike in the prices of fertilisers and pesticides.

Jaganmohan Reddy told the farmers not to get disheartened and assured them that he would always stand by them to fight for their cause. As part of his Rythu Bharosa Yatra, Jagan visited the bereaved family of a farmer of Kanekal mandal, Gangavaram Sarmas Khan, who committed suicide on September 14, 2014, unable to clear his debts, and consoled them.

He also garlanded the portrait of Sarmas Khan. The Rythu Bharosa Yatra passed through Kanekal and Bommanahal mandals on Saturday and the Yatra would cover D Herehal and Raidurgam mandals on Sunday. Former MLA of Rayadurg Kapu Ramachandra Reddy and others were present.
