Ongole: The Ongole Dairy is going to sign an MoU in two days with a Chinese team to export about 500 tonnes of milk powder per month. The members of Chinese team, who visited the Ongole Dairy, last week, were satisfied over the quality of the milk powder that is being produced in the dairy after a thorough testing of the samples in their country. After the consent from the Chinese team, the board of the dairy passed a resolution to supply about 500 tonnes of milk powder every month to China for a period of six months. The board of the dairy also decided to supply about 15,000 litres of milk to Mother Dairy in Delhi daily.

Dairy chairman Challa Srinivasa Rao asked the officials to increase the production capacity as early as possible. The board also constituted a sub-committee with four directors as members to oversee the work of installation of another husk-based boiler as part of production improvement measures. Ch. Srinivasa Rao said told a press conference here on Sunday, “The Prakasam farmers used to supply about 4 lakhs litres of milk to the Hyderabad daily market. But the Amul Dairy from Gujarat and Nandini Dairy from Karnataka affected the supply and the milk producers in the district are having a hard time now.

Though we are facing a loss of Rs 13 for every litre of milk we collect from farmers, we are continuing to buy from them and want to encourage them to supply more, as we are trying to increase the production. As of now, the dairy can produce about 20 tonnes of milk powder daily from the 20,000 litres of milk that were left after supplying about 50,000 litres to the regular customers in district. We expect the local farmers and the dairy would benefit from the milk powder supply deal with the China.

The Ongole Dairy has also decided to manufacture milk cake and ice cream in near future. “We want to increase the number of milk products from the dairy. At present, we are supplying curd, butter milk, flavored milk and doodh peda through various counters established in the town. Now we want to introduce five more counters which work on 24 hours daily and introduce milk cake and ice cream to the catalogue soon, said Srinivasa Rao.
