Doctors boycott duties over attacks by patients relatives

Speaking on the occasion, Hospital Development Committee Chairman Umamaheswara Rao said that a couple of days ago relatives of patients attacked a house surgeon and security guard for a simple reason.

Vijayawada: Tension prevailed for a while at Old Government Hospital in the city on Monday when the doctors and nurses staged a protest claiming that relatives of patients are attacking them for petty reasons. Speaking on the occasion, Hospital Development Committee Chairman Umamaheswara Rao said that a couple of days ago relatives of patients attacked a house surgeon and security guard for a simple reason.


Majority of the women staff in the hospital were facing hardship in rendering their duties in the hospital due to threatening from the patients’ relatives.The Chairman asked the people to file a complaint against the staff who demanded bribe for services in the hospital and assured of taking stringent action against them.


He further said that the hospital committee would regularly monitor the facilities being provided for the patients to avoid inconvenience to them. Circle Inspector Srinivas, after monitoring the situation at the hospital, posted four policemen to prevent tussle between patients and hospital staff.
