A gang of seven has been arrested in Visakhapatnam for offshore oil pilferage and the police seized a mechanised fishing boat, 10,000 ltr diesel and two fibre boats of 16,000 ltr capacity each.

A gang of seven has been arrested in Visakhapatnam for offshore oil pilferage and the police seized a mechanised fishing boat, 10,000 ltr diesel and two fibre boats of 16,000 ltr capacity each. The arrested members were identified as S Prasad, M Mahesh, TV Raju, B Madhu, K Sridhar, Ch Ramu and M Ramakrishna. From the gang, two of them are working as supervisors in a shipping company.


The main accused, Prasad who is a native of East Godavari district has been into this theft for the past few years with the help of a CISF personnel, said DCP, Zone I, (Law and Order) CM Trivikrama Varma.


The gang reportedly used the fibre boat and entered the LPG Jetty raiding oil tankers silently at midnight with the aid of some CISF personnel. The oil products are then channeled out from the tanker’s pipeline to the storage tank of their fibre boat and sold in the market.
