RTC bus fare hiked for Pushkaram in AP

With RTC charging 1.5 times the fares for the Godavari Pushkaralu services, dharnas have been organized against the hike by the upset devotees. Protesting against the extra charges, ex-corporator Devara Karunakar along with a group of commuters staged a dharna in front of the Bus Bhavan on Sunday.
At a normal fare of Rs 250, an express bus ticket to Bhadrachalam from Hyderabad now costs around Rs 375 while high-end buses tickets will touch Rs 550 to Rs 650.
A protestor, Mr P Ramulu said that since the Pushkaram has a lot of religious significance, many travel long distances with their families to take a holy dip. Hiking fares will rob many the chances to visit the Pushkaram with low-income groups not able to travel, concluded the protestor.
