At least 25 people were killed and several others injured in a stampede on the banks of the River Godavari on the first day of the 12-day Pushkaralu on Tuesday morning.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a word with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister on the situation.
Chandrababu was said to be at the police control room overseeing the arrangements of the crowd when the PM called.

"I spoke to CM @ncbn & discussed the situation with him. The State Government is working to restore normalcy," the PM wrote.
