Rajahmundry: Traffic regulations should be implemented as per the requirement and authorities should make efforts to ensure that pilgrims would not face any problem until Godavari Pushkaralu are concluded, Chief Secretary I Y R Krishna Rao directed the officials here on Tuesday. The Chief Secretary held a review meeting on Pushkaralu with DGP J V Ramudu, and officials of revenue, police and other departments.


He said that more than 60 lakh pilgrims had taken holy dip in river Godavari on July 18 (Saturday) and there was no chance of pilgrim numbers crossing it in the remaining days of the event. He directed the authorities to divert pilgrims to ghats where the density is low.


He also asked the railways, which are operating additional train services for Pushkaralu, to make public announcements on the delay in arrival of trains. DGP J V Ramudu said that Pushkaralu were going off very peacefully except for the tragedy on the first day. Stating that food, water, butter milk and milk were reaching pilgrims in every place, he directed the police personnel not to obstruct the vehicles involved in charity activities.


Endowments commissioner Y V Anuradha said spiritual gurus like Baba Ramdev, Chinna Jeeyar Swamy and Vasudevan would be arriving at Rajahmundry on the last day of Pushkaralu and urged the police department to take steps to manage the crowd.
