Over 1.50 crore voters in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh from the total 6.47 crore electorate face the prospect of their names being deleted from the voters list.

The election authorities’ verification revealed that 72.48 lakh voters had shifted their residence and have not informed their registered names in other constituencies. While 70.41 lakh voters were not found at home as their doors were found locked when officials visited, over 30.31 lakh voters had not obtained Aadhaar cards at all, 7.59 lakh voters are dead, but their names still exist on voters list.

Additional Chief Electoral Officer Mr Anoop Singh stated that 1.15 lakh voters were ineligible as their age falls below 18 years as per Aadhaar card while their names exist on rolls and over 7.17 lakh duplicate voters.

A senior official said that they do not want names of any genuine voter to be removed. Hence three notices will be issued if the voters are not at home or if their residence is shifted and each notice will be given seven day’s time for response after which the names will be removed, said the official.
