Kovvur: Lakhs of pilgrims took holy bath in different pushkar ghats in West Godavari district on the ninth day of Godavari Maha Pushkaralu on Wednesday.Braving heavy rain, the pilgrims enthusiastically visited various ghats in Kovvur, Narsapuram and Jangareddigudem divisions to take holy dip in River Godavari.

Heavy rain lashed various parts of West Godavari district since midnight of Tuesday. Due to heavy rain, the pilgrims faced some inconvenience. The pilgrims offered prayers to the River Goddess even while getting drenched in the rain. In Kovvur, the main ghat, Goshpada Kshetram, was packed with pilgrims since early hours.

The pilgrims took holy dip at the ghat even while it was drizzling. The same situation prevailed in Narsapur town. All ghats were filled with the pilgrims. They took the holy dip in the heavy rain. Some pilgrims carrying umbrellas reached the ghats along with their children and other family members.

The pilgrims went to various temples at the Goshpada Kshetram Ghat and offered prayers. Most of the pilgrims performed pooja to cows at Goshala. Meanwhile, with the level of water rising at some ghats in Kovvur, the officials hoisted red flags at the ghats.

The water level is gradually rising due to heavy rains in the upstream of River Godavari. The officials alerted the expert swimmers to keep a constant vigil in view of the rise in water level. Additional staff members were deployed at the ghats as a precautionary measure.
