Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu launched ‘smart village’ project in Krishna district, here on Thursday. The project will be jointly run by Mitsubishi Corporation, Japan, and M S Swaminathan Foundation, Chennai. Under the project, Mitsubishi Corporation and Swaminathan Foundation will adopt three villages -- Nali, Sorlagondi, and Mangalapuram in Krishna district.

Vijayawada: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu launched ‘smart village’ project in Krishna district, here on Thursday. The project will be jointly run by Mitsubishi Corporation, Japan, and M S Swaminathan Foundation, Chennai. Under the project, Mitsubishi Corporation and Swaminathan Foundation will adopt three villages -- Nali, Sorlagondi, and Mangalapuram in Krishna district.

These three villages have eight habitations with a total population of 8,000 and most of them depend either on agriculture or fishing. Under the project, Mitsubishi will provide drinking water, education, health and other facilities to villagers. The organiser of the project will also act as facilitator between the government and villagers in implementing government schemes.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister stressed the need for extending the smart village project to all the villages in the State to improve basic facilities in rural areas. He said if necessary, the State government will also extend financial assistance for development of rural areas.

Praising the Japanese company Mitsubishi Corporation for coming forward to develop three villages in Krishna district, Naidu said Japan and India had good industrial relations and added that Japan is the fourth largest investor in India. Inviting Japan to be a partner in capital development, he said India is an ideal destination for Japanese investors. Deputy Speaker of Legislative Assembly Mandali Budha Prasad said several countries are coming forward to invest in Andhra Pradesh. He said that the project was undertaken with the initiative of CM.

Delivering Keynote address Dr M S Swaminathan said the smart village project would benefit rural areas. Consul general for Japan in Chennai Seiji Baba explained about Indo-Japan relations. Mitsubishi Corporation CMD Masakazu Sakakida spoke on the expansion plans of the company .
