Kadapa: The shocking incident of suicide by two girls Nandini, Manisha Reddy at Narayana College in Chintakommadinne of Kadapa district on Monday created ripples across the State. Student organisations termed them as murders perpetrated by the college management. Relatives and friends of the victims attacked the college and destroyed the furniture on Tuesday.

The student unions enforced shutdown of the city.As the situation turned tense, the district administration imposed prohibitory orders under the Section 144 CrPC in and around the college. Superintendent of Police Navin Gulati said the suicide notes, purported to have been left by the girls, were recovered from the scene of incident.

However, the contents of the notes were not revealed. Opposition leader and YSRC chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy visited the kin of the victims at RIMS in Kadapa. He criticised the government for remaining silent though as many as 12 students had committed suicide in just 15 months across the State. He also found fault with the Chief Minister for not visiting the victims even though he was in Kadapa on Monday.

He demanded the arrest of Minister for Municipal Administration Narayana, the owner of the college. He also demanded second post-mortem on the bodies. Don’t politicise issue: GantaHyderabad: Meanwhile, Human Resource Development Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao lashed out at Jagan for politicising the issue. He found fault with the YSRCP for giving a call for Kadapa bandh on Wednesday.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, the Minister said as soon as the incident came to the notice of the government, he had spoken to the District Collector and Superintendent of Police and directed them to ensure thorough inquiry into the incident.

He said a three-member committee consisting of Registrar of Sri Padmavathi Women’s University Vijayalakshmi, Board of Intermediate Education official Manikyam and District Revenue Officer Chinnarayudu was constituted and the committee was asked to submit a report in three days.

The committee would go into the causes that led to two college girls committing suicide.“The government has taken a serious note of the incident. The committee will also examine whether the incident is a case of ragging or due to harassment by teachers,” the Minister said. He also said he would personally visit the college on Wednesday to take stock of the situation.
