Visakhapatnam: Panchayat Raj Minister Ch Ayyanna Patrudu informed that the funds of the 14th Finance Commission will directly go to the gram panchayats at Rs 2, 000 crore per annum. In the next four years a total of Rs 8, 000 crore will be available for the villages of Andhra Pradesh, he added.

Addressing a gathering of village sarpanches, ward members and officials at a function organised here on Saturday to present the Nirmal Gram Puraskars-2013 to 27 selected gram panchayats across the State that achieved total sanitation, the Minister informed that he and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu convinced the Centre in securing pending funds of 13th Finance Commission also. They also suggested changing the guidelines enabling panchayats get the funds directly, he added.

‘You can take your decision about development works after resolutions in the gram sabha. Send the copy of the resolution with details of budget the panchayat could spend on the works and the government will give matching grant of an equal amount’, he declared amid loud applause of sarpanches.

The Minister urged the sarpanches to utilise the MGNREGS funds to create assets by showing the example of 27 gram panchayats selected for the puraskars-2013 by a committee deployed by the Central government. It examined factors including individual toilets, protected water supply, roads and drainages, garbage dumping and power supply.

Referring to the Swachh Andhra Pradesh programme, Patrudu said that he wrote letters to the Collectors to provide lands to all panchayats for setting up dumping yards and the funds would be given from MGNREGS. He announced a tractor for each panchayat to shift the garbage. The Minister prompted the sarpanches to give an SMS to him in case of problems at any level.

Panchayat Raj Secretary KS Jawahar Reddy called upon those selected for the awards to continue the same healthy norms in future too to make the panchayat as a model one. Later, the awards were given to the sarpanches of the selected panchayats.
HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao, PR Commissioner Ramanjaneyulu, MLAs P Rameshbabu, KSN Raju, Velagapudi Ramakrishna Babu, Srikakulam ZP Chairman Dhanalakshmi, West Godavari ZP Chairman M Bapiraju, Collector N Yuvaraj, UNICEF representative Nalli and CE of RWS K Ravibabu were also present.
