Alleges Naidu ignored AP’s interests

Guntur: YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy launched his indefinite ‘Deeksha’ for achieving special status to Andhra Pradesh, at Nallapadu in Guntur on Wednesday.

The leader of opposition along with his supporters launched the Deeksha after paying tributes to those who committed suicide over the delay in the state getting the special status.

Speaking on the occasion, Jaganmohan Reddy lashed out at the Bharatiya Janata Party-led central government and the Telugu Desam Party-led state government for going back on their promise of according special status to AP.

“TDP failed to pressurise the central government on the issue despite being a coalition partner,” he said.Calling special status as `Sanjeevini’ for the state,

the YSR Congress party chief said if Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had even issued a threat to pull out from the Union Cabinet, the Centre would have by now accorded special status to the state.

Going hammer and tongs against the AP Chief Minister, Jagan said prior to the Assembly elections in 2014, Chandrababu Naidu demanded special status for at least 10 years. The demand was also part of his election manifesto.

He totally changed his stance of late after exposure of his alleged involvement in the Telangana MLC election 'vote-for-note' scandal and his subsequent tacit understanding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He alleged that Naidu was not withdrawing his ministers from the Centre since he wants to save himself from the cash-for-vote scam.

Naidu in order to save his skin has sacrificed the interests of the people of Andhra Pradesh who gave him a mandate to rule, he said.

Jagan’s speech electrified the atmosphere and the mood of the people was upbeat. To his posers on whether Chandrababu lived up to his promise on agriculture loan waiver,

DWACRA loan waiver, one job to every house and unemployment dole to every jobless youth, the venue reverberated with “no, no” responses.

Explaining about the importance of special status, Jagan said that for any project the state would get 90 percent of the assistance as grant and only 10 percent as loan. For states without this status it is vice-versa.

Under the Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme projects like Handri-Niva, Galeru Nagari and other projects, 90 percent of the project cost would be given as grants which are non-refundable. He said special status would do miracles for the state.

Similarly explaining about the Metro Rail projects in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada, Jagan said that if overseas agencies fund the project on a loan basis, the state will have to repay the loan and the interest while for a special status state,

the Centre will repay the loan, including the interest. The Chief Minister knows these dynamics very well and because he placed his own interests above the state’s interests, he is unable to demand anything from the Centre, Jagan said.

Referring to the cases pending against him, Jagan accused Naidu of being hand in glove with Sonia Gandhi and dividing the state mercilessly. These two together hatched a conspiracy to file cases against him and send him to jail.
