Will fight for Special Status: Diggy

Hyderabad/New Delhi: The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Saturday launched an innovative Matti Satyagraham, which is a grassroots level protest against the Narendra Modi-led NDA government for their failure in not fulfilling the promises made to the bifurcated part of AP made in Parliament.

The Congress in Delhi vowed to fight for securing Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh telling Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu that he had "disappointed" the Opposition by not raising the issue in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the capital foundation ceremony.

Party general secretary in charge of the state Digvijay Singh said in a tweet that the "Congress demands Special Status to AP and shall fight for it. Chandrababu didn't even demand in the function. You disappointed us Babu."

Matti Satyagraham takes its inspiration directly from the Salt Satyagraha by the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi in March 1930. APCC president Dr N Raghuveera Reddy and other senior leaders formally began this programme here.

As part of Matti Satyagraham programme a fistful of earth (Mitti) would be gathered from each of the 16,000 villages and 3,000 municipal wards of the state, sacred temples, masjids, churches and from each of these places a fistful of earth (Mitti) would be gathered and sent by post to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, at 7, Race Course Road, New Delhi.

Also, Matti would be gathered from the native villages of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu (Naravaripalle in Chittor district), Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu (Chavatapalem in Nellore district) and Union Minister P Ashok Gajapati Rajus (Vizianagaram Estate).

Apart from Matti, pitchers of water from the main rivers flowing through AP -- Godavari, Krishna, Penna and Tungabhadra -- and from major lakes would also be sent to the Prime Minister, Raghuveera Reddy said, while appealing to the people to participate in this programme irrespective of party affiliations.

Former ministers C Ramachandraiah, Sailajanath, former MLC Ganga Bhavani, former MP N Tulasi Reddy, APCC general secretary Janga Gowtham participated in the programme.
