Vijayawada: The Communist Party of India-Marxist State secretary P Madhu here on Thursday blamed the State government for its housing and land acquisition policies.

Speaking to reporters, Madhu said that the government was applying dual policy on regularisation of houses on the canal and river banks. He accused government of regularising the houses and guest houses of the rich people on the canal and river banks, while evicting the houses of the poor for beautification.

The government had proposed to evict over 15,000 houses along river Krishna at Bhavanipuram, while regularising the houses and guest houses of the rich on the other side of the river, where the Chief Minister also lives in one of those unauthorised houses. He wondered how the government can apply dual policy benefiting the rich on one side and harming the poor on the other.

The CPM leader also raised objection to the government’s plans to take over lands from the farmers and said that it had proposed to acquire more than 15 lakh acres across the State for private investors. He alleged that the government was also using force to take over the lands from the farmers and the farmers from the capital villages were being threatened to give up their lands for the capital.

Madhu said that his party would organise protests across the State and unite people to fight against the forcible eviction and land acquisition by the government. The party senior leader Y Venkateswara Rao was also present at the press conference.
