Will AP not be accorded Special status? Has the Centre made it clear? Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley made it clear that the era of special status is over.
“Special status ka daur samapt ho chuka hai (the era of special status is over),” the finance minister said at a press conference on Thursday.
Stating that the era of special status was over, Jaitley dismissed Nitish Kumar government’s demand for special status. He also said that the Bihar government’s demand had lost its relevance after the 14th Finance Commission came up with a formula for sharing of tax resources between the Centre and the states.
Recently, the Centre had said that Niti Aayog was considering the special status issue. But with Jaitely's statements, it is clear that the Centre may not grant special status to AP.
