Vizianagaram: The Union government is planning to check irregularities in mining by implementing new regulations anticipating increase in income from department of mines and geology. The government is set to implement new policy in the name of Mines and Minerals Development and Regulating Act -2015 to control illegal activities in mining.

All the States in the country are following the Mines and Minerals Act framed in 1957 to allot the mines to private companies on first-come-first-serve basis. It is learnt that this policy has loopholes and was used to benefit the influential people who got control of mines.

Geological Survey of India (GSI) has also directed the mines and geology department of Andhra Pradesh to identify the manganese blocks in Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts.

Three blocks in 13 mandals of both the districts were identified as having rich manganese mineral deposits.

Garividi, Cheepurupalli, Nellimarla, Terlam, Badangi, Bobbili, Ramabhadrapuram, Salur, Mentada and Dattirajeru mandals in Vizianagaram district and Laveru, G Sigadam, Rajam mandals of Srikakulam district have been among the mandals identified as having manganese deposits.
